The Mens final... Samurai's six year reign as Amsterdam Sevens champions ended with a semi-final defeat at the hands of the HFW Wailers with a 12 - 5 scoreline. In the final HFW Wailers played The Templars who beat Mel's Exiles 15-14 in the semis. After six years of narrowly missing out at the final and semi-final stage HFW Wailers finally claimed the Amsterdam Sevens title. They eventually ran out 32-5 winners. The match deciding moment came in the first half when with one try the difference between the two teams Templars crossed the line but were held up. From that point on Wailers capitalised as Templars pushed for a score.

The Ladies final was between Canada, who beat last year's winners Netherlands Ladies 26-19 in the semi-final in extra time and Samurai Ladies who beat last year's losing finalists Spain Ladies. Canada ran in three tries to make it 19-0 by half time. The Samurai scored a a couple of tries in the more even second half but never managed to get close to Canada who eventually ran out 31-12 winners to add the Amsterdam Sevens to their IRB Sevens titles from Las Vegas and Hong Kong.

The Veterans 10s final was between reigning champions Marauders Vets and long term adversaries and three times winners Wooden Spoon. Marauders were by far the stronger side and ran out 22-0 winners.

The Heineken Boot final was a very close affair with Gilbert Pups overtaking Millfield in with a converted try to win 19-17.

Playing rugby and supporting good causes go hand in hand. The Amsterdam Sevens support injured sportsmen in the Netherlands, Wooden Spoon support disadvantaged children in the UK and Ireland (http://www.woodenspoon.com ), 1 PWRR are among the heroes helped by Help for Heroes and many more.

The Templars 7s team support the CGD Research, a charity dedicated to improving life for people affected by chronic granulomatous disorder (CGD).  CGD is a genetic blood disorder affecting the immune system, making it impossible to fight off many fungal infections and certain bacteria. The disorder effects one in every 150,000 people. The charity funds research, raises awareness, distributes information about the illness and funds staff and facilities to support sufferers. Player Market

We always have players without teams who would like to play at the Amsterdam Sevens and Teams who are short of players. We have acted as matchmakers in the past but have now developed a function on the web site to allow players to register as being available and teams to find players to make up their numbers. It's a bit like the Red Light District but without the squelchy part. Players put themselves in the window while the teams look around and decide whether to make a move or not and then they get together to reach an agreement.

Players. Click on the Player Market tab and fill in the tournament you are available for, the position you play and the level you play at (be honest). You can also enter a short description. Remember to click on save.  If you agree to play with a team please update your registration by making yourself unavailable (click the availability box to blank and then click on save.

Teams looking for players. Click on the "Find Player"  tab on your team screen. enter the tournament you are in, the position you are looking for and the level. The system will then show the available players. Click on the name and you will get more information including contact information (e-mail, mobile). Contact the player. If you reach an agreement then the player should change his status to "unavailable" in the system.

In memory of James van Amstel...

My name is George de Vries, chairman of the Amsterdam Sevens and I speak on behalf of AAC Rugby, Amstelveen Rugby Club and the Amsterdam Sevens.

First of all, I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to James' close family and his colleagues at Corso. Almost a week ago I heard the terrible news that James van Amstel/ Big James, our true rugby friend, had passed away. Only the weekend prior, we had enjoyed his 68th birthday and shared much laughter. James first became involved with rugby at the end of the 1970s via Cafe The Musketeers of Rob Adema, winners of the Heineken Sevens in 1978-1979-1980.
